Exciting News...
We are delighted to announce that our practice is having an extension, as well as getting a new look and feel. Appointments will continue to go ahead as usual and don’t worry, you’ll still receive the same expert care from the same dedicated team!
Advanced services
We have invested considerably in our team and kit to make a number of advanced services available to our clients. We also accept referrals from other practices.
Orthopaedics
Our veterinary team have undertaken advanced training to allow us to perform orthopaedic surgery in our practice. If your pet develops an abnormality involving their skeleton or joints, such as elbow dysplasia, a patella (kneecap) that gets stuck, or a torn cruciate ligament, an orthopaedic procedure may help them.
Physiotherapy
Problems involving the musculoskeletal, nervous systems and balance can be helped by physiotherapy. It can also aid in recovery from injury or surgery and with pain management. At Vets4Pets, we can arrange for physiotherapy to be part of your pet’s multi-modal treatment plan.

Dr Brian Allan
BVMS GPAdvCert (SAOS) MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Owner
Since graduating from Glasgow University I have developed a keen interest in all aspects of surgery. I reserve a special interest for orthopaedic surgery.
I have passed the General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery exams and hold the General Practitioner Advanced Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedic Surgery.
The bulk of my workload is filled with orthopaedic operations such as TPLO, CBLO, Patellar Luxations, Fractures (broken bones). At Cumbernauld we also accept surgical referrals from other practices and are very busy with this too.
Meeting our clients and patients is always a joy! It's amazing to see puppies and kittens on their first visit and to give them the best welcome into the world we can offer.
I also have a massive appreciation for our Pets At Home and Groom Colleagues in the store. They play a huge part in my daily life as a vet and really help our clients by offering good advice and direction on topics such as food and nutrition.
Outside of work I enjoy horse riding with Wilson my big Irish Draught. I also take part in clay pigeon shooting and other outdoor activities.
Myself and Brian opened Vets4Pets in Cumbernauld in September 2019 and since opening I have loved getting to know all of our lovely new clients and their furry family!
I enjoy all aspects of small animal veterinary work but have a specific interest in dermatology, medicine and emergency & critical care (ECC).
At home I have 3 cats (Foxy, Dany and Mouse), 2 goats and hens, so looking after the menagerie keeps me busy on my days off!
I enjoy getting outside in the fresh air to go walks and do gardening, but equally enjoy sitting by the fire watching tv or reading a book!
Dr Gemma Mercer
Veterinary Surgeon
BVMS MRCVS
I joined Cumbernauld Vets4Pets in October.
I graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 2019 and moved to London to do my masters in cancer. I came back to Glasgow in 2020 and used that time to take a little break before starting work last October.
It's been a great learning curve, but have enjoyed every bit of it. The best part(s) of the job for me ranges from all the soft cuddles and slobbery kisses to cutting edge surgery and life-saving treatments!
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 boys. If I'm lucky to get enough free and quiet time, I'd happily bake or draw.
I'm looking forward to meeting all the patients and their owners at Cumbernauld!

A further interest that has developed is Emergency and Critical Medicine nursing. To pursue this I embarked on the Vets Now ECC certificate which has compounded and increased my knowledge.
Gaining this certificate in April 2023 further increases the range of services and technical skill I can offer to the pets of Cumbernauld!

HND Veterinary Nursing
I have recently qualified as a veterinary nurse. I studied the HND Veterinary Nursing course at SRUC Barony Campus, where most of my training was practical based which involved the completion of the Nursing Progress Log (NPL).
I have a 5 year old Siberian Husky called Darcy, who is super friendly & absolutely loves people! I have also recently adopted a Russian Dwarf Hamster named Lilo, who is really starting to become a little character. I spent 2 weeks in Welgevonden Game Reserve in South Africa, which was such an interesting & once in a lifetime experience, getting to work with South African wildlife including all of the Big 5, in particular the White Rhino.
I am yet to decide what area of veterinary nursing I would like to specialise in as there are so many areas that I am extremely interested in including theatre/surgery, anaesthesia, exotics & wildlife. Veterinary nursing is not always cuddling animals all day, but I absolutely love my job as no 2 days are ever the same & you never know what could walk through the door!

I am fairly new to the practice and have loved every minute so far! No 2 days are the same and each day brings a new challenge and opportunity to learn… and lots of cute pets too ! Coming from a family of animal lovers it didn’t take me much to realise a career working with animals was for me and have been lucky enough to care for and work with a range of species from cows, sheep and horses, to dogs, cats and rabbits.
Growing up I have had quite the smorgasbord of pets from dogs, horses, rabbits and hamsters to reptiles and insects… although I have to say dogs hold a special place in my heart. I currently have 3 dogs - Zack, Meg and Oscar and 2 rabbits Ozzy and Lemmy.
I currently hold a degree in Agricultural Bioscience which I absolutely loved studying. I particularly took an interest in learning about animal behaviour, health and welfare, nutrition and physiology which has inspired me to pursue a career in the veterinary profession and I am looking to further my studies in the near future!
Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors - going for long walks with the dogs, horse riding and going on road trips. I also enjoy crafting and baking, all which keeps me pretty busy.
I am really excited to be part of the team at Vets4Pets Cumbernauld and continue to enjoy meeting all the lovely clients and their pets and can’t wait to see what the future here brings.
