Advanced services
We have invested considerably in our team and kit to make a number of advanced services available to our clients. We also accept referrals from other practices.
Orthopaedics
Our veterinary team have undertaken advanced training to allow us to perform orthopaedic surgery in our practice. If your pet develops an abnormality involving their skeleton or joints, such as elbow dysplasia, a patella (kneecap) that gets stuck, or a torn cruciate ligament, an orthopaedic procedure may help them.
Ultrasound
We are pleased to be able to offer ultrasound scanning in practice, which is a painless way to look inside your pet’s body to find out what’s going on.

Meet the team
Chris graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon from the University of Bristol in 1999 and has been working as a Veterinary Surgeon in the Bury area since 2001, doing a combination of general practice medicine and surgery, in addition to many years of accident and emergency work at a local out of hours and emergency clinic. He joined the Bury Vets 4 Pets team in May 2017, and has recently become a partner at the practice. Chris enjoys the broad mix that first opinion small animal medicine and surgery provides, and divides his time at Vets for Pets between operating and consulting. When he isn’t working, much of his free time is spent with his wife, and young son Jacob, who manages to keep mum and dad very busy! His Border Collie and 2 cats complete the household!
Michael Dewhurst
Veterinary Surgeon and Joint Venture Partner
BVSc. CertAVP MRCVS
Michael qualified as a vet in 2007 from the University of Liverpool and spent the early part of his career working in mixed and equine practice. Having made the move back to small animal practice, Michael studied for the Royal Collage of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice. He joined the team at Bury Vets for Pets in 2015 and became a partner in 2016. His main interests in veterinary practice are Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging. Outside of work Michael enjoys spending time with his family who breed Exmoor Ponies; a rare breed native to the South West, Michael has been recognised for his efforts in conservation by being awarded Helen Dashwood Perpetual Cup for outstanding services to the breed and the RBST/Marsh Christian Award for Conservation in Genetic Biodiversity.
Lisa qualified in 2015 as a Veterinary Surgeon from Liverpool University. Prior to this, she graduated from Newcastle University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Zoology. From university, she began a career as an equine vet before deciding that the larger scope for diagnostics and more frequent opportunities in surgery lead her to pursue a career in small animals. From here she joined the Bury Vets for Pets team in 2016. In her free time, Lisa enjoys riding, travelling, or spending time with her lurcher Shindig.
Amy qualified as a vet in 2012 from the University of Bristol and spent the first year in a charity practice abroad. On returning to the UK she has worked in a variety of first opinion practices across the North West as well as a local emergency clinic.
She is particularly interested in medicine cases but enjoys the variety of practice that being a veterinarian offers.
In addition, she is working on her British Sign Language skills both in the consult room and outside, and is very happy to use BSL in consults should clients find it helpful.
When not working, she is kept busy enough with her husband and young daughter, and not so young working cocker spaniel! They will often be found hiking or biking in the countryside.
